more snow!!!

I think Little Dude will have 3 weeks off of school for Christmas. She hasn't had school all week. I don't think she'll go tomorrow. The first two days were because school was 2 hours late(snow and icy roads), so no morning Kindergarten. Wednesday school was cancelled because it *might* snow - it didn't . I was slightly annoyed that school was cancelled for snow that was supposed to fall during the night and never came.... Today we woke up to more than 8 inches this morning(on top of the Mayor's car) and it is still snowing. With all the ice everywhere lately, and Little Dude asking if she could ice skate on one of those drainage ponds that had a layer of ice over the top, (NO WAY!!!) it reminded me of a time when I was younger and we lived in North Dakota. (we still had to go to school in the snow - I don't remember it being cancelled very often. I do remember walking home in the snow.) My brother and I would jump off the second story deck into the snow below - until we got caught. At school they would flood the ball fields so they would freeze and we could ice skate during PE and recess. I loved living there. It rarely gets this cold in the Pacific Northwest. We enjoyed candycane hot chocolate and mini cupcake donuts when we came inside today. Now to start the holiday baking...

It's a party and SNOW!

So it seems that if I plan a birthday party for Little Dude, we get a storm. Two years ago, it was a winde storm and we had no power for a week. Well, yesterday we had her birthday party and we got lots of snow! Most of it fell after the party was over, but it all started on Friday night...there was that chance of it coming earlier in the day, but we got away with just a duting until after the party. This morning, the girls went out to play in the snow. Little Bit actually liked it this year, in the past she has just stood there and cried. It's supposed to stay cold for a while...long enough for a white Christmas???? I hope so!

Crazy Hair Day!!!!

yep - it was crazy hair day today at school --- this is what we came up with. And a "crazy" pose to go along with the hair. Lots of braids looped with the ends sticking out all over the place. Silly girl!

Turkey Day

We have lots to be thankful for, as always. Tonigth for FHE we tried to teach the girls that one way to show our thanks is to give back to others who might not be as fortunate. As we went into a local store and choose a tag from the giving tree, we tried to explain what it meant and why we were doing what we were doing. Does this all make sense to them I wondered????? Then from the back seat I hear - "Mom, will our names be on the tree?" Nope - I guess we didn't explain that so well. We'll talk about it more tomorrow and hopefully everyday as Christmas draws near. I really want my children to understand what Christmas is all about - not the toy catalogs that can't be put away soon enough or long enough. I want them to have a love for giving and helping others. I want them to really see others as the Lord sees them. I want them to love to give more than they love to receive. I want them to have hope and believe in Santa, not because of the toys, but because of the feelings of love and joy that comes with "Santa". I want them to enjoy giving like Santa does. Maybe they are a little young....

124th - you can see how high the water is by looking at the street sign behind the girls. There is another street sign just behind the "water over roadway" sign that you can only see the very top of it. the road dips just beyond where the girls are standing.

today the girls and I went to get flu shots. I had arranged to have backup, but due to the crazy rain we've had over the past couple days - Marmar wasn't able to get out of her house. The road had flooded and left her stranded at home. Well, the girls weren't crying on the way there, so maybe it wouldn't be so bad. (Little Dude has cried about it for the past three days). Little Bit said "mom, I'm not going to cry". As soon as we got into the office -just the waiting room, not even the exam room, Little Dude began to quiver. My original plan was to go in with Little Bit and the two of us get shots while Little Dude was int he waiting room with Marmar and then take her out and Little Dude come in. Well, that wasn't happening so all three of us went in and I went first. I hate shots. The sight of a needle makes me want to pass out. I really DON'T like needles, the shot isn't so bad, it's the sight of the needle. Anyway - back to the story, Little Dude began to cry at this point, I said - it's ok, I'm not hurt. and I wasn't. But the needle was just sitting there....ugh, I put on a brave face and got my shot. I said who wants to go next and they both started to cry. Little Bit was up next I decided. Remember you said you weren't going to cry! She was terrified. Finally I got her to show the nurse her big girl underwear and held her leg down and the nurse gave her the shot - quick it was over. a big hug, a tic tac and 3 strawberry shortcake stickers and she was ok. Little Dude on the other hand - well she is much stronger than I imagined. The nurse told her that she had two options, sit on my lap or she would go get another nurse to hold her down. (that didn't really help the situation - she just cried harder)Finally I got her coat off and manged to show her shoulder to the nurse and she got the shot. She kept screaming afterwards. It was so not fun. On the way out the lady at the front desk said "you two were so good, I didn't hear a thing" with a wink at me. Yep - she heard the whole thing. At least it wasn't as bad as the peeing in a hat last year - that incident had me in tears. So now we are all vaccinated against the flu. A friend said - "is it really worth it?" I don't know.Next year, the Mayor will take them, I will not go. I will stay home. Oh, we stopped and got donuts on the way home...crazy yummy donuts.
